Delivering a message to someone can be done without a single word. For example, if you are agreeing to something, you nod your head "yes". To express disgust, you can turn away,  cross your arms, and take a step back. We use this language countless times each and every day, and without it, we would lose 93% of communication with others. But body language can be misused and misinterpreted.

Be Open

When having a conversation with someone, you want to be perceived as open to their ideas and concerned with what they have to say. You can relay this message to them by standing up straight, maintaining eye contact, opening your arms, and limiting distractions. These are just examples of some of the nonverbal cues we give daily.

Body Language and Attraction

The ability to read body language can tell you a lot about how the person you are having a conversation with feels about you. Typically romantic attraction can be displayed through body language. If you are having a conversation with someone and they seem open and interested by using hand gestures and inadvertently grazing your shoulder or hand, they are most likely attracted to you. Men tend to keep eye contact for longer than women when they are attracted to them, and women often glance away out of shyness. Though these are good things to keep in mind, overthinking body language can be harmful to relationships.

It's not all About You

If someone feels tired or upset, they can display signals that may make them seem uninterested. Asking them if something is wrong can be helpful, but do not assume that they are upset with you. It is important to realize that they are not thinking about the way their body is positioned or how often they look into your eyes. Changes in these things may just mean the person is having a rough day.  Don't overthink body language, but don't completely ignore it.
